Rav Gill is an Associate at Shikhman Barristers and a graduate of the Lincoln Alexander School of Law at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Her work is informed by research concerning criminal justice, systemic bias and the effect of emerging technology on legal decision-making.

Professional Biography

Criminal Justice Research

While in law school, Rav published “Algorithmic Reparation in the Criminal Justice System” in the Transnational Tech Law Review. Her research examined how risk-assessment tools, predictive policing and other artificial intelligence systems can reproduce systemic bias within criminal justice decision-making.

Academic and Community Experience

Before law school, Rav completed a Bachelor of Commerce with a minor in Criminology. As a Graduate Research Assistant, she supported research involving decarceration, migrant detention review hearings and health equity in correctional settings, in both Toronto and New York. 

Approach to Defence

Rav’s work is grounded in access to justice and the requirement that the state meet its full legal burden. She approaches each matter with attention to the evidence, the applicable law and the individual circumstances involved.
