Canadian and American Legal Training
Safiya holds Canadian and American law degrees from the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit Mercy. She graduated with honours and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2022.
Legislative and Research Experience
Before law school, Safiya worked on Parliament Hill as a legislative analyst, advising senators on the Cannabis Act. During law school, she led the Innocence Project and worked as a research assistant to the Dean of Law.
That background informs her approach to statutory interpretation, disclosure and the legal issues that arise within a criminal prosecution.
